Sudden
Calmness: the "Calm before the Storm"![]()
A person who has been having problems may seem calmer just before he/she commits suicide. The person seems to have "gotten better," but it is really just "the calm before the storm." A very troubled person who suddenly "gets better" may have decided to commit suicide. The person is calmer, because he/she feels that soon the problems will be over.
Ironically, a depressed person whose anti-depressant medication starts to work may also commit suicide. Before, the person was too depressed to commit suicide. Now, he or she feels "good" enough to make plans to commit suicide and carry them out.
